Light Work
I write. I write poetry, nonfiction, flash fiction, short stories, children’s books, blogs, and spicy romance under a pen name. It’s been said that you should write what you know. Well, I know a lot about heartbreak and struggle—less about happiness, peace and gratitude, but I’m learning, and I’m not vain enough anymore to believe that my life is worthy of reading about any more than any of yours—everyone has a story to tell—but, writing is my calling, my therapy, my island of sanity that ever saves me. Read it. Don’t read it. No matter. Childhood trauma, loneliness, low self-esteem, alcohol dependency, toxic relationships, suicidal thoughts, severe depression, panic attacks, anxiety, worry, fear…a lifetime of pain healed during my dark night of the soul. For those who don’t know, the phrase, “dark night of the soul” is often used informally to describe an extremely difficult and painful period in one’s life. Mine lasted 15 years.
